On September 12, 2018, the Torrey Pines family lost one of their very own. Wendy Montini passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. She is the mother of Mia Montini who was the Torrey Pines cheer captain and vice president of the Associative Student Body (ASB). Aside from being an avid “Cheer Mom”, Wendy was in charge of fundraising for the cheer team, which included numerous events throughout the 6 school years at Torrey Pines shared by both of her daughters. Her skills to Torrey Pines High School and cheer included her ability to handle the administrative and organizational fundraising needs to include an incredible attention to detail, professional demeanor in all her relationships, and warm heart for others that could be seen in her smile and demonstrated in her quiet and diligent ways.
What began as an incredible cheer experience positively impacting each of the girls, also grew into a family who still remains so very close and are deeply saddened by Wendy’s passing. Wendy is survived by her husband Sam and their beautiful daughters Gianna who is a senior soccer captain at Auburn University, and Mia who is a sophomore business major at Texas Christian University. Wendy looked out, loved and cared deeply for each and every student in the Falcon family. To honor her in light of this terrible tragedy, and in coordination with the Torrey Pines foundation, the Montini family has created the Wendy Montini Torrey Pines Cheer Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will aid future Torrey Pines cheerleaders who embody Wendy’s spirit and values to have the opportunity to experience Torrey Pines cheerleading. Wendy was the ultimate Cheer Mom who encouraged each and every cheerleader along with their families. By honoring her legacy through this scholarship she will live on forever in our hearts.
